Local media reports that last week, the 24-year-old daughter of Dr. Umar Ardo, a Nigerian politician, was kidnapped in Maitama, the capital of Nigeria.
Gangsters demanded that he paid ransom in digital currency.
So kidnappers now accept ransoms in bitcoins??— امير👑 (@ameeeeerM) September 16, 2019
This is alarmingly worrying.
Yesterday, Dr Umar Ardo’s daughter, Aisha was kidnapped in Maitama, Abuja and he had to pay $15,000 in bitcoins just for her to be released.
This country is heading for the rocks. God protect us all.
Bitcoin saves another human life
Bitcoin is frequently preferred by kidnappers as means of payment to save their victims instead of cash. This time, a daughter of a Nigerian politician was abducted in the capital of Nigeria and her father, Dr. Umar Ardo, did not even know how to use crypto or conduct transactions.
A lawyer of Umar Ardo wrote on social media that the kidnappers demanded $15,000 in BTC and he had to pay the ransom to get his daughter back safe and sound.
The girl, Aisha, was abducted as she came out of a supermarket in the evening.
As per the local press, Ardo demanded that the gunmen do not kill his daughter or molest her:
“I then said okay I will cooperate and negotiate with you on one condition; that is if you give me two promises. One, that you will not harm my daughter, by which I meant you won’t kill her. Secondly you will not molest my daughter by which I meant you won’t rape her.”
Learn a new thing every day
As per news reports of Nigerian outlets, Umar Ardo was crypto illiterate but the criminals told him if he wanted to release his daughter, he had to learn about Bitcoin and how to send it.
Eventually, he got somebody to do the transaction for him. Aisha was released soon after that.
So Kidnappers demanded $15,000 ransom in Bitcoin before releasing the kidnapped Aisha Umar Ardo. These guys know bitcoin can’t be traced, hence the move.— Bello King Khan🤴 (@Bellokingkhan) September 16, 2019
