As per the Binance’s recent tweet, the mayor of the city of Kure located in West Japan has send the company a letter of gratitude for the efforts that the Binance Charity Foundation (BCF) took to collect donations for the victims of the floods in Japan last year.

Among the biggest donations came from Binance and the Tron Foundation.

Floods hit Japan in summer of 2018, Binance was quick to respond

The floods were caused by heavy rains that hit the South and West of Japan in the summer 2018. There were not only floods but also huge flows of mud.

Over two hundred dead were found in about 15 regions of the country. A dozen people went missing and around 20 thousand houses were heavily damaged.

To help the victims of the natural disaster, the Binance Charity Foundation managed to raise $410,000. However, many more donations came in crypto, mainly ERC20 tokens – that was around $1,410,000.

Thanks to Binance, over 41,000 people got shelter, food, medical aid, etc.

After that, the BCF also set up a charity program providing free lunches to schools in Uganda – for local students and school staff members. The donation program was conducted in BNB.

Later on, when the world-famous Notre Dame de Paris caught fire, Binance CZ initiated donations collecting for restoring the Cathedral. He also suggested raising money for those who BSV’s leader Craig Wright sues and who cannot afford legal expenditures.

Hypocrisy accusations towards Binance

Overall, the community’s reaction to the news has been quite neutral so far. No comments with admiration, congratulations or encouragement have been posted.

One user, however, accused Binance of hypocrisy, saying that donation collecting for major disasters, like the floods in Japan or Notre Dame, are merely self-promotion for those who collect them. He pointed out that wealthy celebrities and companies have already donated enough to rebuild the cathedral. However, he states, nobody collects donations for less well-known disasters, like those in Yemen or Indonesia.

China continues to take steps toward the digital economy and smart cities by officially releasing a nationwide blockchain service network, XINHUANET says.

Blockchain service network expectations

UnionPay, State Information Center (SIC), China Mobile and three other organizations worked on a system that will help China lead the blockchain technology market. Blockchain beta testing has already been announced and will last until March 2020, and all content and services will be available for free till that date.

BSN is expected to accelerate the development of digital technology and smart cities, as well as foster the development of new technology and industries.

What about CBDC?

Earlier, U.Today reported, that China has come close to creating its own cryptocurrency and may even launch it this fall, but then there was information that the national digital currency will appear later.

But China will not become the first country to introduce a national cryptocurrency. The Kingdom of Bhutan has already done it this month, as we already reported.

So, what do you think? Does the launch of China's national blockchain mean that the country will become a leader? Write what you think about this in the comments section!
